Planning For Weddings
Planning for weddings ceremonies may contain any number of different elements; however most contain wedding vows of some kind and a proclamation of marriage, usually by the officiant. Planning for weddings usually involve acquiring the traditional clothes of the culture in which the couple is getting married. A wedding is often followed or accompanied by a wedding reception.
At present are so many different approaches for weddings. Our family seems to buck the trends and forego the tradition in favor of personalizing our weddings. When my husband and I got married we were very young - not even out of our teens when we decided to try to make a go of it. Being a little rebel didn't help much in making the event palatable to grandparents and older friends of the family.
Other than that, we did it our way, and I had my short wedding dress that I had to have, and my husband only trimmed his hair, leaving it long, but slicked back for the big day. At the time, we didn't see the point of me changing my last name either, since we both worked in the same office and couldn't be bothered with the hassle and confusion.
Consequently too, I wasn't a big fan of his family, and seeing as my parents had quickly come to adopt him in a sense, it seemed like if any name changing would be done, and he’d be the more likely party to change - not me!!
So now, twelve years and two kids later, I'm still the odd-man-out. We sometimes joke that it's about time I joined the family, but that notion never seems to last.
I have two younger sisters. They're both officially single, even though one is approaching the big day quite quickly. Both girls definitely have big ideas for weddings. Although neither one wants anything over-the-top or ultra-extravagant, both are still sticking to our one family tradition: bucking the trends!
For starters, my sister is insisting on pink sapphires for her engagement ring. The one ring that she seems pretty stuck on does have a diamond in the center. However, this stone is flanked by two very prominent pink sapphires that my sister swears she's stick with forever. That's just the beginning of her jaunt from tradition.
Subsequently many girls nowadays try to mime their plans for weddings like paper dolls. These days every girl seems to want a solitaire diamond, and most of these diamonds simply must be princess cut. I personally prefer that particular cut, or even the emerald cut has a nice look to it, but what's the point of everybody choosing the exact same ring?
| It seems like when it comes to plans for weddings, our society is made up of conformists with no ideas of their own. |
A wedding is clearly one of the most important, special events of your life - a time to flaunt your individuality and an opportunity to add personal flourishes every step of the way. Hopefully this notion will take root and none of us will be subjected to boring, plain white dresses, one mimicked after another, boring wedding speeches and typical last songs. Here's to a new revolution for weddings and enough of this copycat business!
Other wedding traditions are relatively recent. Some elements of the Western heterosexual wedding ceremony symbolize the bride's departure from her father's control and entry into a new family with her husband. In modern times when planning for weddings, this symbolism is largely vestigial, since husband and wife are of equal power and status. In some cultures, same-sex weddings are celebrated.
